Valley Manor is a private long-term care home nestled in the natural environment of Barry’s Bay. We are a fully accredited facility for 90 residents, and we are the area’s largest employer with 140 people on our staff. Valley Manor is also building a new residence – the largest redevelopment project in Barry’s Bay history! This new development will offer an even better home for our residents with larger individual and common area rooms. It is an exciting time to be a part of our organization.

We are recruiting for a Nurse Practitioner. This is a permanent, full-time position.

Reporting to the CEO, the Nurse Practitioner collaborate and liaises with the Medical Director, Director of Care and an interdisciplinary team in the care and delivery of healthcare services. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Assess, diagnose and evaluate acute and chronic illness and other changes in residents’ conditions, prescribe treatments, diagnostics and follow-up care
  • Support and advocate for residents’ best interests while engaging with the resident, family or substitute decision-maker regarding care
  • Participate in resident care conferences
  • Provide clinical leadership to the long-term care team members centred around the resident care needs (i.e. resident move-in and move-out, hospital discharge planning, palliative and end-of-life care, pain management, dementia care and responsive behaviour management)
  • Participate in identifying, analyzing and interpreting trends in resident care and professional nursing practice to determine priorities for educational programming for team members, residents and families
  • Promote knowledge development and mentorship of clinical staff by integrating best practices in resident care
  • Assist with the development and delivery of education to staff, residents and families
  • Document clinical data, assessment findings, diagnoses, plans of care, therapeutic interventions, resident responses, and clinical rationale in a timely manner
  • Participate in creating an organizational environment that supports the safety and quality of resident care and life, collaborative practice and professional growth.
  • Participate in quality committee meetings; support CQI projects and initiatives
  • Participate in providing after-hours and on-call coverage
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class
  • Vulnerable sector check valid within the last six months or able to obtain one
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two doses plus one booster)
