Make a Freedom of Information Request (MFIPPA)

The County of Hastings is committed to supporting your right to access information, while ensuring the protection of personal information in accordance with legislative requirements.

The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) came into effect for all municipalities and local boards in Ontario in 1991. Its two main purposes are:

  • To provide the right of access to the information held by institutions covered by the Act; subject to limited and specific exemptions; and
  • To protect the privacy of individuals with respect to their personal information held by government institutions.

The County Clerk’s office administers the Act on behalf of the County of Hastings. 

The Act has a number of provisions dealing with the collection, use and disclosure of personal information. To obtain information about exemptions and procedures relating to the Act or its Regulations, refer to the Ontario Information and Privacy Commissioner’s Office.

If you would like to make a request for information you may contact the Clerk’s office by email at [email protected]. All requests for information must be received in writing.  Some information may routinely be made available to the public without a formal freedom of information request. A formal request is needed if the request includes personal information or if one of the exemptions set out in the Act applies to the information being requested. A completed request form and $5.00 application fee must be received to start the request. Requests for information may be reviewed by the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario if you feel that the reply you’ve received and/or certain exemptions are not correct.
