Position Summary

We are looking for a responsible team player with an eagerness to learn and thrive in a fast-paced environment. As a growing retail-based establishment, the Mechanic has many vital duties that vary from assisting customers in renting products to performing maintenance inspections and repairs on a variety of equipment and tools such as chainsaws, mowers, string trimmers, and snow removal equipment, etc. The Mechanic would also troubleshoot, dismantle, assemble, and adjust mechanical equipment and machinery to maintain it in efficient operating conditions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adjust, repair, or replace mechanical or electrical system parts and components using hand tools and equipment
  • Test and adjust repaired equipment for proper performance
  • Inspect and test engine, motors, and other mechanical components using test devices to diagnose and isolate faults
  • Determine estimates of repair costs
  • Keep inventory levels appropriate for products and accessories
  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs to our rental equipment in order to ensure that the equipment is reliable and safe to operate
  • Assemble new products as they arrive
  • Conduct service calls for customer relations and equipment breakdowns
  • Maintain safe working conditions and adhere to occupational health and safety regulations
  • Assist customers with tool and equipment rentals for their projects
  • Completes other tasks, as required
  • Responsible to maintain current knowledge of safe operation for each piece of equipment that is requested to be operated and be familiar with all specific safety devices and procedures for specific equipment, prior to operation
  • Responsible as an employee for health and safety, including working safely within requirements of legislation and policies, reporting hazards, and maintaining a safe and clean environment

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including some weekends and holidays
  • Good communication skills and the ability to be professional and courteous when interacting with the other staff and customers
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment as well as within a team
  • Manual dexterity
  • Willingness to continually develop professional skills and knowledge base
  • Demonstrated ability to attention to detail
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Proven mechanical abilities in gas and diesel automotive repairs
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations
  • General knowledge of mechanical equipment and operations
  • Demonstrated ability to safely and competently operate various types of equipment including compressed air, pressure washer, grinders, manual hoists, and diagnostic and specialty tools
  • Comfortable with some medium to heavy lifting

Preferred Qualifications and Assets:

  • High school diploma preferred
  • Knowledge of skilled trades
  • Ability to weld
  • A combination of work experience in the trade and/or completion of the small engine course
  • A valid D class driver’s licence
