What began 5 years ago, as a Friday night street dance and classic car show has developed into a weekend long festival of inter-generational activities loosely based around its titled theme. In a sense, Wheels, Water & Wings is a celebration of the various forms of transportation that one might have taken to reach this destination and a welcome to those who may have arrived for the first time. It is a time to celebrate the very spirit of community.
Wheels, Water & Wings is a co-venture, organized, delivered and evaluated by volunteer representatives from government, community organizations, for-profit and not-for-profit interests, resource providers and citizens of the community. The festival attracts thousands of visitors who east in local restaurants, purchase artwork from local artists and buy produce from local farmers. The camaraderie generated by this street festival is akin to an old-home week celebration and a return to the old-fashioned community celebration that naturally integrates newcomers into local civic and social networks. Thus, WWW represents the intersection of economic development and social well-being.
