Hastings County has an opening for one (1) permanent full time Small Business Coordinator position. Reporting to the Economic and Tourism Development Manager, the Small Business Coordinator provides direct one-on-one assistance, education and support to individuals starting, expanding or running a business in Hastings County. Under the direction of the Manager of Economic and Tourism Development, the Coordinator also provides support with pursuing business expansion, investment and other growth opportunities within the County.
Hastings County is situated on the traditional territory of many nations including the Huron-Wendat and the Haudenosaunee peoples. The County also acknowledges the Mohawk and Algonquin nations whose traditional and unceded territory Hastings County is located on.
Geographically it is the second largest county in Ontario, stretching almost 160 kilometers from the Bay of Quinte in the south to the edge of Algonquin Park in the north. Including the cities of Belleville and Quinte West, more than 145,000 people make Hastings County their home. With easy access into the cities of Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal either by road or rail Hastings County is strategically located.

Residents’ health care needs are served by Quinte Health Care Corporation (QHC) and family health teams throughout the County. QHC runs three hospitals in the Town of Bancroft and cities of Belleville and Quinte West. It also owns and operates a hospital in Picton in Prince Edward County.

Coaching and Mentoring:
•Help entrepreneurs to start up new businesses, while assisting existing ones grow, by providing them with free business coaching and confidential, one-on-one, management assistance and other similar support.
•Provide entrepreneurs and businesses with information on available properties, financing opportunities and government resources.
•Assist entrepreneurs and businesses work with local municipalities where appropriate.
•Participate in training that supports the enterprise facilitation practice of entrepreneur coaching.
Internal & External Relationships:
•Work co-operatively with volunteer community resources to assist entrepreneurs in finding help and resources.
•Work collaboratively with and be an active member of the Economic & Tourism Development Unit.
•Assist the Economic and Tourism Development Manager with the development and implementation of County-wide and community-based initiatives that help market, promote and enhance economic development opportunities.
Record Keeping & Reporting:
•Track, organize, compile, analyse and maintain a database(s) that contains statistics and other relevant information to help measure outputs and outcomes including (but not limited to):
o Inquiries processed
o Number of clients served
o Client satisfaction
o Number of new business start-ups
o Number of new jobs created
o Amount of new assessment created
•Prepare and maintain a daily work log of activities undertaken.
•Prepare updates/reports to the Planning & Development Committee, and other Committees/Council, as required.
•Provide monthly reporting to the Economic and Tourism Development Manager and/or Director of Planning, Economic & Tourism Development.
Health & Safety:
•Be aware of and follow the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and County policies.
•Attend offsite meetings in public and private settings often alone.
•Works in a safe manner in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, associated regulations, other applicable legislation, County by-laws, policies, procedures, and guidelines
Minimum Qualifications:
•Three-year College Diploma in Business Administration or equivalent combination of education and experience, degree preferred.
•Valid “G” driver’s license and reliable transportation.
•2-3 years’ private sector/small business experience.
•Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
•Well-developed reflective listening skills and the ability to interact with clients with patience and empathy.
•Knowledge of computer & communication equipment and operational procedures.
•Proven abilities in problem solving and negotiation skills.
Hours of Work:
•Normal hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (35 hours/week).
•Occasional overtime may be required for project completion.
Salary Range: $62,214 – $72,782 per annum, with excellent fringe benefits
