Hastings Manor is accepting applications for a temporary part-time Behavioural Support Worker (PSW) - 60 hours bi-weekly. Reporting to the BSO RPN and Director of Nursing, the Behavioural Support Worker/PSW works within the guidelines of the South East LHIN Behavioural Support Project to provide personal care, behavioural support and interventions with supervision through guidance and direction from the BSO/RPN and Director of Nursing
• Assists in enhancing the quality of life for the persons served with responsive expressions.
DUTIES:
• Participates in the Nursing Behavioural Management interventions as outlined in the plan of care as directed
• Assigned to provide 1:1 support and care, assessments, planning and evaluating for residents having responsive behaviours.
• Acts as a resource and support to other staff/family members/volunteers in managing residents with responsive behaviours by demonstrating and
teaching interventions and strategies.
• Observes and reports changes in residents’ physical, mental and/or emotional condition promptly.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, and POA/Resident to assist in care and service delivery for residents with responsive behaviours.
• Participates in care conferences as required.
• Participates in the Collaborative Committee – meets monthly
• Documents care provided and communicates care needs well both written and orally to team members.
• Promotes resident independence in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) by assisting with personal hygiene, dressing, transferring, toileting, and use of
ambulatory aids while using good body mechanics, appropriate mechanical aids and assistance from co-workers to prevent strain, injury or fatigue to self
or resident.
• Works within the health and safety guidelines, and properly utilizes all PPE.
• Upholds the Resident Bill of Rights in all matters.
• Protects the rights of residents in the matter of confidentiality, privacy, beliefs and values.
• Receives verbal/written reports from outgoing shift members and notes incidents/conditions on previous shifts.
• Assumes responsibility for personal development through participation in Staff Development programs, seminars and workshops. Required to attend o
going training to support skills in managing residents with responsive behaviours, including but not limited to GPA, U-First, Montessori and PIECES.
• Demonstrates an understanding and commitment to the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the Home and the Behavioural Support Ontario Project.
• Participates in the implementation of best practices in the home.
• Maintains good relationships with residents, staff, and the general public.
• Provides quality customer service to all parties, including but not limited to: the Management Team, other staff, the families and the residents
• Completes all tasks, duties and documentation with efficiency and professionalism
• Other duties and tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Must hold a valid Personal Support Worker Certificate or recognized equivalent in accordance with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Act or
meet the grand-parenting provisions in the act.
• Must possess a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
• PSW Certificate plus 2 years current experience may be considered in lieu of Grade 12.
• Strong computer skills, ability to track/trend information and complete reporting templates as required, i.e: Word, Excel
• Ability to Collaborate with Care partners, (Mobile Response), Families, Person’s Served and Staff
• Proficient use of Point Click Care
• Preference will be given to applicants with U-First training, GPA, Montessori and additional training in caring for people with dementia and challenging
expressions
• Ability to understand and uphold all rules and requirements under applicable legislation (including but not limited to the Employment Standards Act,
Human Rights Code, Ontario Labour Relations Act, the Ontario Health and Safety Act, Long Term Care Homes Act).
• Demonstrated ability to abide by all Home policies and procedures
HOURS OF WORK:
• Required to work flexible hours to meet behavioural needs of the resident exhibiting responsive behaviours.
• 60 hours biweekly
WAGE RANGE: $30.43 + 4% vacation per pay + 12.5% in lieu of benefits
