    The County of Hastings is currently accepting applications for a Full-Time Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) – Infection Control Coordinator/Environmental Services Supervisor at Hastings – Centennial Manor Long-Term Care Home in Bancroft, Ontario.

The primary function of this position is to assist the Director of Nursing with the administration of the nursing services, the co-ordination and implementation of the Infection Prevention and Control Program and the supervision of the Environmental Services staff for the home.

Duties and Responsibilities

Infection Prevention and Control Program and Development: 
•    Implement and monitor a surveillance program for residents and team members and manage outbreaks in consultation with the local Public Health Unit and the Ministry of Labour. Review screening results daily and monthly to determine any action required. 
•    Design and conduct in-depth investigations of clusters/outbreaks of infections and collate appropriate data to assist the leadership team in determining cause. 
•    Convening the Outbreak Management Team at the outset of an outbreak and regularly throughout an outbreak and ensuring protocols are being followed. 
•    Auditing of infection prevention and control practices in the home, reviewing, and creating action plans for improvement opportunities. Ensure compliance with Infection Control Protocols and environmental cleaning practices according to PIDAC guidelines.
•    Ensuring there is a hand hygiene program in place which includes ensuring access to hand hygiene agents at point-of-care. 
•    Implement, maintain, and lead a vaccination program, N95 Fit Testing program, and Pandemic planning response. 
•    Leading the interdisciplinary infection prevention and control committee at a minimum quarterly geared towards improvements and best practices within the home. 
•    Assist in the development and updating of evidence-based Nursing Policies and Procedures in accordance with best practice guidelines and participate in relevant nursing research.
•    Oversee the delivery of infection prevention and control education to all team members, caregivers, volunteers, visitors, and residents. O.Reg. 246/22, s.102 (7)
•    Maintain inventory control and ensure the ordering and receipt of supplies relating to the infection prevention and control program.
•    Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee as a key member relating to infectious illnesses and the safety of team members.
•    Participate in home improvements/construction to ensure it aligns with infection control best practices. 
•    Participate in the development of the department operational budget.

Leadership and Oversight: Nursing
•    Conduct or participate in team member evaluations, investigations, and coaching/discipline.
•    Ensure that in-service programs are provided and encourage the continuing professional development of the department team members to improve skill levels. 
•    Educate team members on the principles and practices of infection prevention and act as a resource regarding infection prevention and control. 
•    Supervise in accordance with and follow the Occupational Health and Safety Act, County policies and accepted nursing practices. 
•    Utilize supportive interpersonal skills to effectively empower team members’ approach to improve quality care, both at a departmental and multidisciplinary level. 
•    Maintain partnerships with all leaders of the home to ensure a holistic and person-centered approach to care and programs. 
•    Promote positive team member and resident relations. 
•    Collaborate with community partners and resources. 
•    Liaise with the registered staff regarding the medical care of residents and keep the Director of LTC, Medical Director/Associate Physicians informed of health conditions of the residents.
•    Assists the DOC in the implementation and evaluation of the nursing department quality improvement initiatives, risk management systems, data collection and analysis, report writing, procedural updates.
•    Assist in the development and updating of evidence-based Nursing Policies and Procedures in accordance with best practice guidelines and participate in relevant nursing research.
•    Respond to complaints; investigate concerns, consult with leadership team and rectify concerns.
Leadership and Oversight: Environmental Services 
•    Actively select candidates, conduct interviews, and provide recommendations for hiring team members. 
•    Conduct or participate in team member evaluations, investigations, and coaching/discipline.
•    Understand and work within the guidelines of the collective agreement(s). Liaise with the collective bargaining unit(s) to promote mutually beneficial resolutions. 
•    Ensure that in-service programs are provided and encourage the continuing professional development of the department team members to improve skill levels. 
•    Supervise in accordance with and follow the Occupational Health and Safety Act and County policies.
•    Utilize supportive interpersonal skills to effectively empower team members’ approach to improve quality care, both at a departmental and multidisciplinary level. 
•    Participate in assigned committees and facilitate department meetings. 
•    Maintain partnerships with all leaders of the home to ensure a holistic and person-centered approach to care and programs. 
•    Promote positive team member and resident relations. 
•    Collaborate with community partners and resources.
•    Develop Environmental Services policies and procedures in accordance with best practice guidelines, public health recommendations and relevant infection control protocols.
•    Ensure quality assurance performance levels are being maintained, documented and reported. 
•    Maintain inventory control and ensure the ordering and receipt of supplies relating to the infection prevention and control program.
•    Report any mechanical failures or unsafe conditions and promote safety in the workplace.
•    Ensure good staff and resident relations are maintained and provide effective public relations with relatives and outside agencies.
•    Participate in and/or lead committee and departmental meetings.

Program Delivery
•    Order and maintain inventory control of environmental services supplies/equipment/infection control and nursing. 
•    Ensure quality assurance performance levels are being maintained, documented, and reported. 
•    Work with facilities and vendors to troubleshoot any mechanical failures or unsafe conditions and promote safety in the workplace.
•    Ensure outbreak protocols are implemented and followed by all team members and any action items implemented. 
•    Complete department audits and inspections to ensure that they are in line with safety and legislated requirements. Investigate and evaluate new environmental services, techniques, and supplies/equipment. 
•    Attend multi-disciplinary conferences for residents as needed. 
•    Participate with the Ministry of Labour, Public Health, and Ministry of Long-Term Care home inspections. 
•    Respond to complaints; investigate concerns, consult with the leadership team, and rectify concerns. 
•    Collaborate with scheduling clerks to ensure appropriate coverage and develop working short routines.
•    Other related duties as assigned.
Health & Safety: 
•    Ensure that employee incidents are documented, investigated, and submitted to the Administrative Associate. 
•    Immediately report and document all incidents of alleged, suspected, or witnessed abuse or neglect of a resident in accordance with the Fixing Long-Term Care Home Act, 2021 and home policies and procedures. 
•    Ensure a zero-tolerance approach is taken in all instances of alleged bullying or harassment in accordance with the County of Hastings policy and procedures. 
•    Be aware of and follow emergency response procedures including all practice drills. 
•    Be accountable for the delivery of high quality, safe, and reliable care along with a safe working environment to ensure and protect the health and safety of those who use and deliver the programs and services provided by Hastings Manor. 
•    Works in a safe manner in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, associated regulations, other applicable legislation, County policies and procedures, and guidelines. 
•    To educate, respect and promote Cultural and Diversity to all team members, volunteers, students, and the clients we serve.
•    To promote and practice Psychological Health & Safety in the workplace through prevention, promotion, and guidance.

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Certification
•    Four-Year BScN University Degree. 
•    Certification in Infection Control (CIC), through Infection Prevention and Control Canada (IPAC) required or a willingness to obtain within 2 years.

License, Registration and Training
•    Licensed and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario

Experience 
•    Four to six years Nursing experience in a managerial/supervisory role
•    Experience in Long Term Care and applied knowledge of relevant legislation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 
•    Superior planning and management skills.
•    Demonstrated ability to supervise a large number of staff providing various levels of nursing care.
•    Ability to work with minimal supervision and demonstrate sound decision making, time management and administrative skills.
•    Ability to prioritize and work efficiently and accurately to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
•    Strong interpersonal skills, patience and oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with residents, the public, staff and external service providers.
•    Capacity to create an environment conducive to the well-being of the residents.
•    Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office.

HOURS OF WORK:      Monday – Friday (8:30-4:30, 37.5 hours per week), with on-call rotation
WAGE RANGE:    $107,788 - $126,098 per annum, with excellent fringe benefits
